THIRD FLIGHT will play a four-team round robin Nassau Tournament. Here are the seeds:
1. Noonan/Mandrachia
2. Winslow/Mellow
3. Mock/Mock
4. M. Keane/P. Keane

Former Hanover High School standouts Mike and Scott Peters kicked off the quest for their seventh championship in the 33-year history of the Tommy Keane Invitational at Hanover Country Club in style Friday, shooting a 65 to earn the top seed in the Championship Flight.

Hartford golf coach Mike Hathorn and former Hurricane Mitch Cable shot a combined 67 to claim the second seed ahead of Lebanon’s Shane MacDonald and regular partner Andy Hydorn, who also came in at 67. Former Dartmouth teammates Jeremiah Daly and Jeronimo Esteve shot 68 for the fourth seed while the father-son team of Jim and Andrew Jankowski carded a 69 to round out the top five spots.

Match play in the Championship Flight begins Saturday morning with the Peters brothers opening up against No. 16 Torrey Viger and Jim Burnett, who salvaged a berth in the flight when Viger made a clutch par putt on the first extra hole of a three-for-two playoff to force another hole that they won with a par. Hathorn and Cable will play the team of No. 15 Kevin and Tom Keane, who birdied the first playoff hole to claim their slot in the flight.

Bob Jacobs won the closest-to-the-pin on No. 14 Friday with a distance of 3 feet, 2 inches. Mitch Cable won on No. 4 with a distance of 5-9. Robert Brownell won on No. 12 at 7-4 and Andy Hydorn took the honor at No. 5 with a shot measuring 11-9 from the hole.

The championship continues through Sunday afternoon.
